I wanted to protect her: child molester tells cops

A 30-year-old Saudi man accused of molesting a nine-year-old local girl told police he wanted to protect her by taking her home.

Police arrested the man in the Western Red Sea port of Jeddah after the girl identified him in a queue comprising a number of suspects.

'Al Hayat' Arabic language daily said the man was accused of grabbing the girl and forcing her to walk with him to the roof of the building where she lives.

“The girl managed to escape and went straight to tell her father, who informed the police. He is on trial on charges of molesting a child,” the paper said, adding that the prosecutor demanded maximum punishment of the defendant.
