An old Saudi man intercepted a member of the royal family on a tour of a public work to tell him that he worked for his late father King Saud bin Abdul Aziz more than 50 years ago, newspapers in the Gulf kingdom reported on Wednesday.

Prince Mashari bin Saud was visiting the park in the southern Saudi Al Baha town when Mohammed Al Zahrani, in his 80s, stopped him, triggering alert by his body guards.

“I worked for your father, May God the Almighty have mercy on him…I was one of his guards in the royal police more than 50 years ago,” Zahrani told the smiling prince.

“Your father loved all people and he was keen to address their needs…he would not eat until we all sat and eat with him,” he told the Prince, according to Sabq newspaper.

Born in 1902, King Saud ruled the Gulf kingdom, the world’s dominant oil exporter, during 1953-1964. He died in 1969.

Baby found on pavement in Saudi

A Saudi man walking back home stumbled across a newborn baby left on the pavement in the scorching summer sun in the Gulf Kingdom.

The man from the southern town of Sabya said he rushed the girl to the nearby hospital where she was examined and admitted to the pediatric section.

“She was lying there on the pavement near my home…there was nothing to protect her from the sun,” the unnamed man told Sabq newspaper.
