A Saudi tailor who has made the Kiswah (pall) for the holy site of Kaaba in the Gulf Kingdom over the past four decades has died, a newspaper reported on Sunday.

Sheikh Rajab Al Asmani Al Malki died in a hospital in the Saudi capital Riyadh on Monday after falling ill for nearly two months, 'Sabq' said.

“Sheikh Rajab was admitted to the intensive care unit and his condition then improved…but he suddenly died on Monday,” it said.

“He had made the Kaaba Kiswah for the past 40 years and this had allowed him to know every detail in the Kiswa.”

Kiswah, Arabic for pall or dress, is the cloth that covers the Kaaba in the Western Saudi town of Makkah. It is draped annually on the 9th day of the month of Dhu Al Hijjah during the annual Haj (pilgrimage).
