Kuwait has announced a nine-day holiday for its government offices to mark Eid Al Adha, which is expected to start in the first week of October.

According to minister of state cabinet affairs Sheikh Mohammed Al Abdullah, the cabinet decided to give the public sector a two-day break after the end of Eid, which adds to the four-day Eid holiday plus weekend holidays.

Government departments will be closed between October 3 and 12, he said, quoted by the Arabic language daily Al Anba.

Saudi Arabia has also announced a long Eid holiday while the UAE has not yet made any announcement in this regard.

According to scholars and experts, Eid Al Adha (feast of sacrifice) could begin either on October 3 or 4, depending on the sighting of the moon on Thursday for the start of Dhu Al Hijja Muslim month, the last month in the Islamic calendar. Eid Al Adha normally starts on the 10th day of Dhu Al Hijja.
