An Ethiopian housemaid poured boiling water on a six-month-old Saudi girl, causing her to scream and bring her father rushing to save her.

Imad Al Anzi was in his bedroom at their house in the capital Riyadh when he heard his daughter Alia crying incessantly in the bathroom.

“I rushed to the bathroom and found that the maid opened the hot water tap and left it running on my daughter, causing severe burns all over her body,” he said.

He told Arar Arabic language newspaper he had the maid arrested while his daughter was still undergoing treatment.

The incident came a day before Saudi Arabia announced it was halting the hiring of Ethiopian housemaids following a string of deadly attacks on their employer’s children.

More than two million domestic helpers work in Saudi Arabia, mostly from Indonesia, Philippines, Sri Lanka and Ethiopia.
