Maid saved from gallows to be freed

Saudi Arabia’s authorities have decided to release an Indonesian housemaid accused of using witchcraft to murder her female employer after spending nearly four years in prison.

Relatives of the Saudi victim had demanded the execution of the 30-year-old maid but the courting the southern province of Jazan suspended any sentence for lack of concrete evidence of the murder.

Newspapers in the Gulf Kingdom said Prince Mohammed bin Nassir bin Abdul Aziz of Jazan had ordered the release of the maid.

“Prison authorities are preparing to free the maid and deport her to Indonesia in line with the Prince’s order after the court could not find evidence the maid used magic to kill her Saudi employer,” the Arabic language daily Ajel said.
