A Saudi court has sentenced a local man to death for trying to blackmail a woman by threatening to publicize her private photographs, charging him of human trade, a local newspaper reported on Saturday.

The unidentified Saudi young man had ignored repeated warnings by members of the feared Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice to stop harassing the woman in the northern border town of Arar, Ikbariyat Arar online Arabic language paper said.

He was arrested when he went to the woman’s office at a government department and threatened her again, it said.

“The judge sentenced him to death after charging him with human trade…the man has 40 days to appeal the verdict,” it said, adding that it was the first death sentence to be issued by a Saudi court in a harassment case.
