Man sues hospital for son’s hand paralysis

A Saudi father is demanding punishment of a medical team which he believes had caused paralysis in his son’s hand four years after he was born, the Arabic language daily Sharq reported on Monday.

The man said he had spent a lot of money to treat his son, Mashaal, but doctors finally told him the problem was caused by dislocation during the baby’s birth at the hospital in the eastern port of Dammam, the paper said.

When the father took his baby back to the hospital a few days after he was born, doctors said it was a normal condition that happens sometimes after birth.

“They told him that the baby’s hand was not dislocated but the problem started to worsen in time, prompting the father to visit many hospitals,” it said.

“In the end, doctors at King Fahd Hospital in Riyadh told him his son’s hand had been dislocated during birth and that it has been completely paralyzed…the father has sent a letter to health authorities asking for punishment of those responsible and sources there said they are seriously considering his request.”
