Saudi authorities have deployed mobile bakeries to supply more than 10 million loafs daily to Muslim pilgrims converging on the holy city of Makkah for their annual Haj season next week, Okaz newspaper said on Saturday.

The bakeries have been set up in and around Makkah, Islam’s holiest shrine, and nearby Madnina, which will also be visited by the pilgrims, the paper said.

“These mobile bakeries have the capacity to supply more than 10 million loafs of bread to the pilgrims,” it said, quoting Fayez Hamadeh, head of the bakeries committee at the Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

He said over 800,000 flour bags had been placed under the disposal of those bakeries during the week-long Haj season.

Nearly two million Muslims from Saudi Arabia and other countries are expected to perform Haj ahead of Eid Al Adha in mid November.
