A Saudia airlines pilot returned to the airport in the Gulf kingdom just minutes within takeoff after a defiant passenger refused to fasten the seat belt.

Cabin crew on board Tuesday’s flight 1548 from the northwestern town of Tabuk to the western Red Sea port of Jeddah spent most of the time before takeoff trying to persuade the passenger to fasten his seat belt in compliance with international aviation safety rules.

“The passenger defiantly refused to fasten his seat belt although the aircraft has already taken off,” Alriyadh newspaper said.

“When the pilot was told about the problem, he headed back for Tabuk airport and landed just minutes after takeoff…he then called security men who took the passenger out of the aircraft and detained him for interrogation.”
