A member of the Saudi royal family personally intervened to scrap a court order to deport a jailed Arab girl on the grounds her family lives in the Gulf kingdom.
Prince Mohammed bin Nassir bin Abdul Aziz, the Emir of the southern province of Jazan, also ordered prison authorities in the province to quickly release the girl, in her 20s, after she completed her jail term and to help reunite her with her family.
“The Prince immediately reacted with concern when he was told by the prison officials about the girl’s ordeal…he asked them to instantly stop all measures to deport the girl in line with a court sentence,” Ajel Arabic language daily said.
“The Prince also requested prison authorities to quickly release the girl and ensure she is reunited with her family who lives in the kingdom.”
Ajel said the unnamed girl had almost completed her prison term but did not mention on what charges she had been jailed.
