Qatar Diar real estate company has started selecting consultants and engineers for its planned Tozeur resort in Tunisia and work on the project will be launched soon, the company’s CEO was quoted on Wednesday as saying.

Khaled Mohammed Al Sayed said a company team is currently talking to Tunisian authorities to prepare for starting the project in southwest Tunisia.

“Our technical team is currently coordinating with local authorities to prepare for launching field work for the project,” he told Qatar’s Arabic language daily Sharq.

“Our company is also selecting local and international engineers and consultants for various stages of the project, including planning and construction.”

Scheduled to open in 2015, the Tozeur Desert Resort will include 60 luxury suites, high-end health and spa components, retail outlets and restaurants, state-of-the-art conference and business facilities, an amphitheater and an “Arabian Night” tent, as well as desert sports and tennis courts, according to Diar, which was created in 2005 by the government-owned Qatar Investment Authority.

The Tunis-based Agora consultancy firm has been awarded the design contract for the project, which will cost an estimated $80 million.
