Saudi Arabia’s capital Riyadh recorded more than five traffic offences every minute last week and most of them involved speeding and jumping the red lights.

Police in the Gulf Kingdom’s largest city issued a whopping 23,000 tickets to offending drivers during a traffic campaign last Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, an average 7,666 offences a day, 319 an hour and 5.3 a minute.

“A police report showed most of the offences involved speeding, jumping the red signal and reckless driving. They also included failure to use the seat belt, using mobile phones while driving and non-compliance with some road rules,” Sabq daily said.
