Saudi bans chips at primary schools

Saudi education authorities have decided to ban the sale of potato chips at all primary schools in the Gulf Kingdom on the grounds they are harmful to the health.

In a letter to schools, the Ministry of Education said all canteens at the schools must stop selling chips and asked managements to prevent students from brining such products to class, the Arabic language daily Alhayat said.

“School managements were also asked to ensure students’ parents must abide by these rules, which will be enforced in the second school season next month after it was proved such products are harmful to the health,” the paper said, adding that authorities will conduct regular inspection of schools to ensure compliance.
