Saudi bans expats over 8 from public schools

Saudi Arabia has banned foreign students exceeding eight years from joining government schools from the next academic year, newspapers said on Sunday.

In a scholar, the Ministry of Education told all public schools in the conservative Gulf Kingdom not to accept expatriate students above eight years.

“Foreign students above eight years old are now allowed to join public schools in the Kingdom, starting from the next scholastic year,” it said without giving explanation for the decision.

Nearly eight million expatriates live in Saudi Arabia, accounting for around 30 per cent of the total population of 27 million.
