Saudi bans prayers against other religions

Published

Saudi Arabia has told its mosques to stop mentioning other religions in their prayers, saying God has sanctioned their survival for some reason.

The Saudi Ministry of Islamic Affairs said any prayers by mosque Imams (preachers) involving insults against other heavenly religions amounts to a serious violation of Islamic tenets since such prayers had never been said by Prophet Mohammed (peace be upon him).

“You should stop saying any prayers that call for the destruction of other religions,” it said in a letter to mosques in the Muslim Gulf kingdom.

“Preachers and Imams can say prayers only against the aggressors…any prayers against other religions are prohibited because God the Almighty has sanctioned their survival for a reason which He only knows," said the circular carried by Saudi newspapers.
