Saudi caught with girl made to marry her on the spot

A Saudi man seeking to avert punishment agreed to marry a girl after he was caught with her by the Gulf kingdom’s feared religious police.

Members of the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice were on a routine patrol in the southern town of Abha when they saw the couple together.

“They took them to the Commission centre and gave them the choice of getting punished or married,” Ain Alyoum daily said.

“The man told the Commission members that he loves the girl and wants to marry her…they called the couple’s custodians and a Moslem scholar and married them.”

Mixed-gender meetings are strictly banned in conservative Saudi Arabia unless those involved are closely related.
