A little Saudi boy visited his dead father’s grave on the first day of Eid Al Fitr and read Quran verses at the grave as Muslims usually do on this day. But the boy went further by leaving a letter for his father although he knew it would not be read by a dead man.

The Saudi Arabic language daily Ajel published the letter which it described as “very touching, sad and emotional” but it did not name the boy or specify his age.

Following are excerpts of the letter placed by the boy at the grave of his father who has died recently in the northwestern Saudi town of Skaka.

“Father…I know that you will not read this letter but I want to convey my feelings to you…today is the first day of Eid Al Fitr and I want to tell you what I did…as you had taught me, I performed dawn prayers with other people at the mosque, then returned home, kissed the head of my mother and wished her a happy Eid…

“I then had a wash, put on my new clothes bought by my uncle, had my breakfast, wore perfume and went to my grandparents to kiss them and give them Eid greetings…I returned home and spent some time with my brothers and sisters…

“I went out and greeted people on Eid…all of them were very nice to me and some of them gave me money or toys for Eid…I was happy with these toys and played with them before I returned home because of the hot weather outside…

“When I came in, I heard my seven-month-old sister crying…I rushed inside and found my mother trying to calm her down…my father, I know how much you loved my little sister and how upset you got when she cried…I asked my mother and she told me that my sister could not sleep because it was very hot after a power failure….

“Oh my father, it was a very beautiful day until electricity went off and spoiled the happy moments of every one in our neighborhood…to be honest my father, I had not known the electricity officials in my country would give us this bad Eid gift…but I assure you my father, I will always pray to my Lord and thank Him for everything.”
