Saudi doctor to be lashed for molesting patient

A Saudi court sentenced a senior local doctor to 1.5 years in prison and ordered him lashed 120 times after he was convicted of molesting a female patient. Health authorities backed the verdict with a decision to sack him.

The unnamed doctor, a consultant at a major hospital in the eastern province of Ihsa, was found guilty of molesting the woman and of repeated violations of hospital rules requiring him to check female patients in the presence of a nurse or a male guardian.

Newspapers said Saudi health minister Abdullah Al Rabeeah issued a decision sacking the consultant after it was proved he had violated hospital rules many times.

“The court in Ihsa sentenced the doctor to 1.5 years in jail and ordered him lashed 120 times for violating the ethics of his profession,” Alsaudeh daily said.
