More than 250  school girls were evicted from the building after a blast in a lighting bulb caused by a power shortcut, a newspaper reported on Thursday.

The girls and their female teachers stampeded out of the primary school in the southern town of Khamis Mushait after the power failure triggered the school alarm.

Sabq Arabic language daily said classes resumed later after the civil defence went into the school and repaired the damage.

Man kills son for taking drugs

An Egyptian man decided to take the law into his own hands when he shot dead his 18-year-old son for refusing to give up drugs.

Angered by his son’s refusal to stop having drugs and turn himself over to the police, the father pulled a gun and shot him in a busy road in Minya town, nearly 250 south of Egypt’s capital Cairo.

Newspapers said the father, who is on the run, had already helped the police arrest his elder son for dealing in drugs.
