A Saudi teacher who came late to class appeared to be so clever that he persuaded the school head to gift him his watch instead of punishing him.

Mureeh Al Shammari, an Arabic language teacher and a poet, was first rebuked by the headmaster Nassir Al Radeeni for coming nearly one hour late to class in his school in the northwestern Saudi town of Al Jouf.

Sabq newspaper said the headmaster left a note for the teacher at his desk reminding him of the school rules and warning him not to be late again.

In a “poetic” reply letter to the headmaster, Shammari blamed his inaccurate Chinese-made watch and said he would not have been late had he got a watch as good as that of the headmaster, the paper said.

“The headmaster liked the poem so much that he decided to give the teacher his watch as a gift in exchange for a promise not to be late again.” It said.
