Siamese twins saved in 18-hr operation

A Saudi medical team of more than 30 surgeons and anesthetists successfully separated local Siamese twins in an operation that lasted nearly 18 hours.

Doctors at King Abdul Aziz medical city in the capital Riyadh said the operation on Monday was successful, but complicated, as the baby boys were joined at the head and shared many veins and arteries.

“The operation was carried out in eight stages by more than 30 prominent surgeons and anesthesia experts from the medical city and other hospitals in the Kingdom,” a health spokesman said, quoted by Sada newspaper, which did not mention the twin’s age.
