University tests students on Manal Al Sharif

Students at a Saudi university sitting for their final annual examination were surprised when they found one question was about female activist Manal Al Sharif, who was jailed last week for defying a long-standing ban on driving cars by women in the conservative Gulf country, a newspaper reported on Monday.

The students at the information college in the Riyadh University were told by their professor they would get 20 marks if they answer the question correctly.

Kabar newspaper published a copy of the question which read:”Manal Al Sharif has occupied a large area in the local media…how did intellectual attitudes of local newspapers affect their tackling of the issue.”

Al Sharif was seized while driving her car through the eastern port of Dammam ahead of a June 17 female campaign on Facebook to defy the driving ban. She was jailed 10 days before she was freed last week.
