Video: Child steals 500,000 Yemeni rials

 
A little girl was on caught on camera as she sneaked behind the counter at a jewelry shop in Yemen and stole half a million rials (Dh8,500) from the drawer, demonstrating unique skills and courage for a thief of her age.

The girl had apparently received instructions from an adult woman who tried with another lady to detract the attention of the worker by pretending to buy jewelry.

A YouTube film published in regional newspapers showed the girl bent her head down and disappeared behind the counter for a while before emerging again with a big bundle of rial notes, which she handed to the woman standing next to her.

The film showed the woman quickly dumped the bundle into her bag before leaving with the girl and the other woman without buying anything.

Newspapers said the shop owner in the western Yemeni port of Al Hudaydah later discovered the robbery and reported it to the police but it was not known if the little thief and her accomplices were caught. The film showed both women wore veils on their faces but it was not clear if this was part of the theft operation.
