Video: Sand 'hurricane' hits Saudi Arabia

A severe sandstorm similar, to hurricanes in the United States, hit South Saudi Arabia on Sunday but there were no reports of major damage or casualties.

A YouTube published on local social media showed a massive wave of sand was gathering pace before sweeping most areas in the Southern region.

Saudi Arabia has the world’s largest desert. Stretching 1,000km along the Southwest and 500km on the Northeast, Al Rub Al Khali (Empty Quarter) is larger than the size of five GCC states—the UAE, Oman, Bahrain, Kuwait and Qatar.
