People who love natural phenomena will be able to see a rare heavenly scene on Saturday night when the crescent will appear inverted and pointing upwards towards the sky, according to Saudi Arabia’s Astronomy Society.

“Saturday night will present a beautiful and wonderful heavenly demonstration just after sunset with the emergence of the small crescent moon in the western horizon at the bottom of Jupiter,” the Society said in a statement carried by Saudi newspapers.

It said people in Saudi Arabia and other Gulf countries would be able to see the rare crescent, “whose horns will be pointing upward towards the night sky and which will have the cluster stars, the Pleiades, to its left.”

The Society said the phenomenon could be seen with bare eyes but it would be better to be sighted away from city lights or with the help of binoculars. It said observers would be able to see a phenomenon involving the “embracing of a new moon by an old moon as part of the moon which is not illuminated by the sun will be dimly shining.”

“The source of this dim light is the sunlight which is reflected on earth,” the statement added.
