Wives must not hit husbands: Saudi cleric

Wives must not beat their husbands even in case of self defence as such an act is disliked in Islam, a senior Saudi Islamic cleric has said.

“Women must not beat their husbands even if they are defending themselves. This is a bad behavior in Islam,” said Sheikh Abdullah Al Manei, a member of the Gulf Kingdom’s seven-man Supreme Scholars Committee.

“Hitting a husband does not solve the problem. There should be a sort of understanding and cohesion between spouses.

“Violence only destroys marital life and a successful marriage requires dealing based on leniency and love.”
