A Saudi woman told a prominent Islamic scholar during a TV programme that she has vowed to slaughter a donkey if her cruel ex-husband dies. Bu the surprised scholar warned the woman against such a prohibited act.

The woman, identifying herself as Umm Mohammed, phoned Sheikh Abdullah Al Mutlaq, a member of Saudi Arabia’s seven-man Supreme Scholars Authority, during a local TV programme during which he answered questions by the viewers.

“I have vowed to slaughter a donkey when my former husband is dead to thank God for ridding me of his and his evil…he was very cruel to me and my children,” she said.

Sheikh Mutlaq replied:”This is not acceptable in Islam…you have to forgive your former husband and pray to God to pardon him…be better than him…but if you want to fulfill your pledge, you can slaughter a sheep and donate it to the poor.”
