World’s heaviest teen loses 100 kgs to now weigh 510 kilos

A Saudi teen age boy rated as the world’s heaviest person in his age category has lost nearly 100 kg to weigh 510 kg since he was transported to hospital by an army of medical employees and the civil defence, a newspaper said on Thursday.

Khaled Al Shaeri, who was admitted to King Fahd Medical City in the capital Riyadh weighing nearly 610 kg, is expected to continue losing weight after undergoing his first gastric bypass surgery this week, Sabq Arabic language daily said.

“Doctors said Shaeri has so far lost nearly 100 kg and is expected to lose more weight following the operation and a dieting programme,” the paper said.

Doctors treating the 16-year-old boy on orders by King Abdullah have said they aim to reduce his weight by an average 15kg a month over the next three years.

More than 50 civil defence and medical staff members joined hands in late August to transfer Shaeri out of his house in the southern province of Jazan to hospital in Riyadh, using a huge medical bed and crane imported for him from the United States.

“I am optimistic that I will get better. I hope I will be able to stand on my feet and walk again,” Shaeri said just after he was admitted to hospital.

Shaeri is the heaviest teen ager in the world, although some newspapers in the Gulf Kingdom have described him as the heaviest man on earth.

King Abdullah, 89, has intervened and ordered the immediate treatment of Shaeri after the boy appeared in local newspapers many times to appeal for Royal help following difficulties in his breathing system.
