Yemeni President makes public appearance

Yemeni President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi defied security concerns and went to the mosque in Aden to perform Friday’s prayers in a clear message of reassurance to the people, a Yemeni news network reported on Saturday.

Yemen Press said Hadi, who returned to Aden this week from his temporary stay in the Saudi capital Riyadh, wanted to send a message to his people and abroad that Aden is now safe and that he is in control of the situation.

The official media published a picture showing Hadi wearing the traditional Yemeni dress and praying along with his cabinet members and other officials and people.

“By going to the mosque, Hadi was sending a message of reassurance to his people inside Yemen and to abroad,” Yemen Press said.

It said it was his first public appearance in Aden since he fled the country several months ago following a coup by the Iranian-backed Houthis and their allies.

“The mere fact that Hadi went to the mosque in his Yemeni dress underscores the fact that the situation in Aden is back to normal,” the report said.

During a meeting with his ministers and aides, Hadi declared that his forces would win the war against the coup insurgents and warned they would be hunted “in their caves.”
