Buying a car in the UAE involves a lot more than just personal likes and dislikes. Even before you check car specs, engine power and size, it’s often the resale value that gains prominence.

Buy a car with a good resale value, is what everyone will tell you, when you start car shopping.

With a big migrating expat population in the UAE, it is comprehensible why the resale value of the car is of importance.

Emirates 24|7 spoke to three car experts in the region to list their top 5 cars with the best resale value.

These are just an indicator on where to get started.

SellAnyCar.com portal put Toyota, Nissan, Honda, BMW and Mercedes as the toppers on their best resale value list.

“When we are talking about specific car models, the most popular are Nissan Altima, Honda Civic, Toyota Corolla and Mitsubishi Pajero,” explains Saygin Yalcin, CEO of the website.

“According to the data we acquired from our system, Honda, Nissan and Lexus lose the least value in a year.

“Only Nissan, Mitsubishi, Toyota, Lexus and Chevrolet will keep half of its initial value after four years, while no make will keep half of its initial value after five years.”

Gerard Wilson of Sixty Seven auto services, pitches the same five names.

“From my experience, it has to be Lexus, Mercedes g63, Land Cruiser, Nissan Patrol and Toyota FJ cruiser,” he says.

Simplybuyanycar.com, an online portal that accelerates second-hand car sales, lists Toyota Prado, Toyota Camry, Toyota Corolla, Mitsubishi Pajero and Nissan Patrol as the toppers.

“Prado offers affordable parts and is easy to maintain,” reasons A Mulla, Managing Director of the portal. “It is like a Land Cruiser but more affordable, but still functional as a 4x4.”

“Toyota Camry and Corolla are easy on the pocket to maintain. In fact, this is the general trend among Japanese cars.”

According to Mulla, the Pajero wins the top slot because it’s “economical and is a functional 4x4”.

He adds, “Nissan Patrol performs well in the desert and off-road. It is easily modifiable and undoubtedly the best desert car ever made.”
