Salary cut for social media video post

The Ministry of Education (MoE) has punished two female teachers after they posted a video on a social networking site showing one of their students begging them to allow him to go home, Emarat Al Youm has reported.

The MoE officially warned the teachers and deducted two days' salary, an official was quoted as saying.

The video shows the two female teachers laughing and asking him to beg some more, which led the father of the child to complain to the teachers and the ministry.

The MoE acted on the complaint from the father of the Grade 1 student one of a school in Umm Al Quwain.

He added that his son, after the posting of the video on social media refused to go to school. The father asked the concerned authorities to preserve the dignity of his son.

Marwan Al Sawaleh, Undersecretary of the MoE, told Emarat Al Youm that the Legal Affairs Department at the ministry investigated the incident and punished the two teachers.

He added that he MoE has also warned them that in the event of repeating the offence the penalty will be escalated to suspension or termination of service.
