Sandstorm hits Dubai, traffic slows to a crawl

A sandstorm hit Dubai on Tuesday morning bringing visibility down to a minimum and slowlng traffic down across the emirate.

The national weather bureau had predicted cloudy and windy weather for the week, however, this is the second sand storm to hit Dubai in the last five days.

At the time of filing this report (11am), no major mishaps or accidents were reported.

Forecasters expect rain and thunderstorms in the Northern Emirates on Wednesday while heavy rain is likely in the extreme north of the country.

 Jebel Ali port resume operations

Tanker operations at the UAE’s Jebel Ali port were resumed after being suspended for about seven hours due to strong winds on Tuesday, an official at the port operator said.

"Operations have restarted at 1645 am (1245 GMT)," he said.

Jebel Ali is located in Dubai and is a major oil blending centre for clean petroleum products such as jet fuel and diesel.
