An 11-year-old Saudi boy survived while all 11 members of his family were killed in a road accident in the Gulf Kingdom after he refused to go with them.

Rayan was with his family spending the weekend with his grandmother in the southern Jazan province before they decided to return home in their car at the end of the holiday.

As they got into the vehicle, Rayan told his father he would stay with his grandmother for some more days, according to Sabq newspaper.

On their way home in the central Al Qaseem province, the family had an accident after their car rammed into a truck, resulting in the death of the entire family.

“Rayan had not known that he would stay with his grandmother forever when he refused to go back home with his family,” the paper said.

It identified the dead father as Shoua Yehya Abu Ajra, 45, his 23-year-old wife, and nine children aged between two months and 18 years.

The paper said the dead woman was the man’s second wife but it did not refer to his first wife.
