Saudi police have arrested a local woman driving a car with 15 girls in violation of a long-standing ban on female driving in the conservative Gulf Kingdom.

The woman, in her 40s, was driving the four-wheel car in the western Saudi town of Taif when she spotted a police patrol parked near the roundabout.

Instead of trying to avoid the policemen, the woman drove towards them, opened the car window and asked them about the location of a local resort.

She told the cops that the 15 girls, aged between 14 and 18 years, were from the nearby port of Jeddah and that they had come to visit the resort.

“When the police men saw the woman driving, they stopped her and asked all of them to get out of the car. They seized the car and referred the woman to the competent authorities,” Sabq newspaper said.

Old Saudi couple found hanging at home

A 100-year-old Saudi man and his wife were found hanging at their home in Saudi Arabia and police believe they were murdered.
A relative who was taking dinner to the couple every night found them hanging and called the police and an ambulance, which rushed them to hospital.

“The wife was already dead while her husband was alive and moved to the intensive care unit…a few hours later, he died,” Alsaudeh Arabic language daily said in a report from the southern province of Jazan.

It quoted Jazan police spokesman Colonel Awad Al Qahtani as saying unknown men had apparently broken into the couple’s house at night and hanged them. He did make clear if the assailants were thieves.
