Ramadan traffic hit Dubai commuters on Tuesday with an accident reported in Sharjah, forcing  closure of Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road for one hour, according to Dubai Police and RTA.

Meanwhile, another accident on Sheikh Zayed Road has also resulted in a partial closure of the highway in front of Al Tayer Motors, north bound.

An eyewitness to the Sheikh Zayed Road accident spoke to Emirates 24|7 saying: “It is a three-car pile-up, heading towards Dubai. A grey sedan is completely smashed while a 4WD and a second sedan are parked haphazardly on the highway.

“Dubai Police has blocked the outer two lanes on the highway with traffic piling up and extending beyond Mall of the Emirates,” he said.

Meanwhile, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road also hasn’t fared well, facing its own closure in wake of  the accident in Sharjah.

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority confirmed the news, tweeting: “Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road is shut from 14.30 to 15.30 as a result of an accident in the Emirate of Sharjah. We call on drivers to use alternative routes.”

The RTA has requested commuters to take Emirates Road as an alternative until the highway reopens.
