Sharjah couple in fatal accident

A Sharjah-based couple were tragically killed in an accident in the south Indiancity of Kochi, in Kerala.

The couple have two children, both daughters, studying in Kerala.

In fact, the elder daughter, Jisha Mathew (17), and the driver of the car were severely injured in the accident and are undergoing treatment. 

What makes the incident even more tragic is that the accident took place while Suja and Varghese Mathew were on their way to Kochi’s to Nedumbassery International Airport. 

Suja worked with as a laboratory technician at the Al Zahra Hospital and Mathew, known to his friends as Shaji, was an X-ray technician with Sharjah Military Hospital.

“She went on an emergency leave, because one of her parents was seriously ill. She took emergency leave. We are all sad because her death is unexpected and sudden. We were expecting her back on duty on Saturday,” said a colleague of Suja’s at the Al Zahra Hospital.

According to sources, their vehicle hit a wall, which then collapsed on top of the vehicle. 

Varghese Mathew, alias, Shaji has been working in Sharjah for almost a decade.

 “We feel sad that Suja Mathew died. She was supposed to resume duty now. Her colleagues and friends are extremely sorry that they cannot even participate in her funeral on April 19, in India,” saidan Al Zahra hospital source.

“Shaji was supposed to return to Sharjah after a week and was rushing his wife who was on an emergency leave,” said a friend at his workplace.

Shaji has been in the UAE for over a decade and his many friends and relatives here are mourning his passing away.

The couple will be buried today evening at the St George Orthodox Valiya Palli (Church),Chennithala, Kerala. Shaji is the son of retired Agricultural Officer Varghese Thekkeveettil, Kizhakkevazhi, Chennithala, Kerala.
