A few hours after her mother Durga Rani Bora passed away on Thursday, 43-year-old under-trial Indrani Mukherjea took a dose of her anti-epileptic pills and fell unconscious at Arthur Road Jail on Friday afternoon. She was rushed to the JJ hospital at Byculla which is not far from her Jail.

Indrani had started getting convulsions earlier and has been on those pills from September 11 onwards.

She was advised to have two tablets during the day and one at night.

On Friday, she had consumed the pills under the supervision of the prison officials.

She later complained of chest pain and was rushed to the hospital.

Doctors performed an MRi on her to ascertain the nature of the problem and realised that she had consumed some pills leading to the said condition.

While there were speculations that the former TV Channel owner could have tried to commit suicide, doctors attending to her said that an overdose of anti- epileptic pills could lead to a comatose condition.

Indrani has been kept in the CCU of the hospital and is being treated there at the moment.

Her medical condition is slightly unstable as reports last filtered in.

“She is unconscious and is serious and we think that she may have consumed some tablets,” came the official statement from the Dean of the JUJ Hospital, Dr Lahane.

Doctors added that there may be toxic material in her body which will take a day to clear and a clear position on her health can only be informed by Saturday evening.

Indrani was arrested on August 25 for allegedly murdering her daughter Sheena Bora. Sanjiv Khanna, her ex-husband and her driver Shyam Rai were also arrested and all the three were sent to judicial custody at Arthur Road Jail after spending a few days in the police lock up.

The Khar police in Mumbai was investigating the case and then after the transfer of top cop Rakesh Maria, the case was transferred to the CBI who recently registered an FIOR against the three accused.
