1.8kg of gold found in traveller's rectum

18 gold biscuits worth SLRs9 million were found hidden in the rectum of a Sri Lankan who arrived at Bandaranaike International Airport in Colombo on Thursday from a Gulf country, the ‘Lankadeepa’ reported.

The weight of the gold seized from the 40-year-old resident of Trincomalee was 1.8kg.

The passenger was behaving in a suspicious manner from the time he arrived at the airport, police said.

The suspect told police he was paid $300 for carrying 20 gold biscuits and he was a frequent traveler between the Gulf country and India, and travelled to Sri Lanka once a month.

4-year-old swallows drawing pin, dies

A 4-year-old boy, a resident of Mihindupura in Ampara in Sri Lanka, died after a drawing pin got stuck in his throat, local media reported.

The victim had been identified as Kemith Dinsara, a student of Global Pre-school in Ampara.

Police said the child had put a drawing pin in his mouth while his mother had gone out of the house to hang the washing to dry.

The mother took the child to the hospital in a three-wheeler.

Director of the Ampara General Hospital Dr. Thilaka Jaysinghe said the child was in a serious condition when he was admitted to the hospital.

‘Abducted’ teenage girl found in hut

An abducted 13-year-old Sri Lankan girl has been found by police in a hut near the Udawalawa National Wildlife Sanctuary on Thursday.

Police has arrested the youth who took the girl, along with his father for possessing an illegal firearm.

Police are trying to find whether the Grade 9 student of a school in Kalutara was abducted or went with the youth on her own after falling in love with him.

The girl has been admitted to a hospital and both suspects were due to be produced before the Embilipitiya Court.
