12-year-old girl elopes; lover booked for abduction

A pre-teen girl eloped with her alleged 21-year-old lover in Sri Lanka.

According to reports in Lakbima’, the youth has been arrested by Wanathawilluwa police and charged with abducting the 12-year-old schoolgirl.

The incident came to light after the girl’s mother filed a police complaint that her daughter was missing.

According to police, the girl confessed that she was in a relationship with the youth and upon his request decided to go with him.

The young woman had been taken to the Puttalam base hospital for medical examination to check if she was sexually abused.

The suspect is due to be produced before the Puttalam District Courts.
