13 school boys molested by principal, 58

SRI LANKA: Police spokesman SSP Ajith Rohana said that a school principal, aged 58, in Haputale, has been arrested for molesting 13 school boys, ‘Colombo Gazette’ reported.

The sexual abuse of school children had been taking place for sometime but the incidents had gone unreported. It was year 6 and year 8 students who had become victims of the principal over a period of time.

Ironically, it was during an awareness programme recently held on child abuse at the school, that the victims reported the abuse they were experiencing at the hands of their principal.

While reiterating vigilance over such incidents, SSP Rohana said incidents of such nature where school boys being molested have been widely reported in recent times, especially in schools.

Further investigations continue.
