200 protest against embassy in Rome

Over 200 Sri Lankans held a peaceful rally in front of the Sri Lankan Embassy in Rome.

Severan Sri Lankans from neighboring cities - Firensi, Napoli and Milan joined the protest, ‘Lankadeepa’ newspaper reported.

The demonstrators urged President Mahinda Rajapakse to replace Sri Lankan Ambassador for Italy Asitha Perera with a more efficient, courageous and intelligent diplomat.

They requested the government to enhance the embassy’s weekend service for the benefit of all Sri Lankans in Italy and ensure that their mobile service has been implemented properly.

Meanwhile, it is reported that Ambassador Asitha Perera, whose official term ends next month, has been recalled by the government.
