3-day-old baby killed and buried by mother

A 22-year-old woman has been arrested in Sri Lanka on suspicion of killing her three-day-old infant and burying it behind her house, the ‘Lankadeepa’ has reported.

According to the report the suspect, a resident of Sevanapitiya in Welikanda, and her mother has been remanded to police custody till October 19.

Acting on a tip-off, police unearthed the dead body of the baby before the acting magistrate.

9-year-old boy found hanging from cashew tree

A nine-year old schoolboy was found hanging on a cashew tree on Sunday in Sri Lanka, the ‘Divaina’ has reported.

The boy, who had gone to sleep with his father on the previous day night, was missing on the day of the incident. When the father searched for him, he had found the boy hanging from a tree.

The dead boy was a Grade IV student of Batagoda Junior School. Anguruwatota police is investigating.

A police officer said that the boy’s elder sister had died in a similar manner about four years ago.

Police said that the victim’s mother was living separately and two elder sisters were living with their grandmother.

Police think the boy’s death could be a murder as there were some blood stains underneath the cashew tree.
