The Dalai Lama has urged Buddhist monks in Sri Lanka and Myanmar to put an end to attacks on Muslims in their respective countries, according to a report in Wednesday’s ‘Colombo Gazette’.

When asked questions following a speech he delivered to 15,000 people at the University of Maryland, USA, on Tuesday night, the Tibetan spiritual leader condemned all violence in the name of religion.

He said Buddhists, including monks, were responsible for recent violence against Muslims in Sri Lanka and Myanmar.

Thousands of people have been displaced in Myanmar over the past year due to sectarian violence while Muslim businesses have been recently attacked by Buddhist groups in Sri Lanka.
