Heroin-filled ball thrown into prison grounds

Sri Lankan prison authorities have found a tennis ball thrown into the Bogambara prison grounds in Kandy on Sunday which was filled with packets of heroin, the Lankadeepa’newspaper reported on Monday.

Authorities believe that the agent involved in supplying heroin to  prison inmates has been doing the business through mobile phones while collecting the price of the heroin from relatives of the inmates.

He had thrown the tennis ball into the prison grounds and the inmate in the prison who was supposed to collect the ball had not been near where it fell, investigations have revealed.

Another inmate, who was in the vicinity, picked up the ball and handed it over to prison authorities who cut open the ball and found 196 heroin packets worth over Rs58,000.
