SRI LANKA: A man had been released on a bail of Rs20,000 after he was produced before the Tricomalee magistrate for severely injuring his wife’s paramour, who had tried to run out through the rear door, with a sharp knife and later attacking with a pole. The husband had found them both on the verandah of his house, ‘Mawbima’ reported.

The man released on bail had been identified as MA (44) from Pankulama in Morawewa and the victim was RS (37) from Devanagar in Trincomalee, a father of one.

It had been revealed that MA's wife and RS had been carrying on an extramarital affair for some time and they had even visited Kandy and Nilaveli areas where they had spent time as husband and wife in motels there.

On the day of the incident, December 15, the woman had phoned RS to come home as her husband was out on that day and accordingly he had come around 11.00 am.

Around 9pm, Samantha had suddenly come home and the wife had no other option but to let RS flee through the rear door.

The suspect chased the paramour and attacked him with a sharp knife and a pole after the victim fell to the ground.

The injured victim had been rushed to the Gomarankadawala hospital by the neighbours gathered at the scene.

Morawewa police are conducting further investigations.
