Husband stabs wife 16 times to death

A man was apprehended by Sri Lankan police sixteen years after he stabbed his wife to death.

Hambantotal Police HQI Chief Inspector Aruna Chandrapala said that they arrested the husband who was in hiding after killing his wife by stabbing her 16 times, Lankadeepa reported.

The victim had died after succumbing to her injuries at Malay Colony in Bandagiriya, Hambantota in July 1998. The husband was absconding after evading arrest.

The officials were able to arrest the suspect identified as, Sarath Liyanage, at the Hambantota town after a tip-off received a constable attached to the intelligence unit.

The suspect had been engaged in various jobs as a labourer in various places during the past one and a half decade.

Authorities are making arrangements to produce the suspect before the high court while conducting further investigations.
