The dead body of a 49-year-old woman, apparently a victim of murder by suffocation, has been recovered from the spillway of Kalulube Lake in Sri Lanka, according to a report in the ‘Sunday Mawbima.’

Indrawathi, a mother of three, had been missing for three days since November 20. She was at home with her youngest son on the day she went missing.

The victim’s elder son is employed abroad and the second son is in the navy while her husband is employed in the postal department.

In the evening, Indrawathi had gone towards the lake to bring her cattle home and when she did not turn up, her youngest son had gone searching for her after lodging a complaint with the police who were blamed by villagers for their lack of help in searching for the missing woman.

Three days later, a couple passing by the lake’s spillway had spotted iguanas jumping over something and informed the police who recovered the woman’s dead body.

A postmortem at Anuradhapura hospital revealed that she had been killed by squeezing the neck.

No one has yet been arrested.
