Ingiriya police (Sri Lanka) have arrested a man on Tuesday (Sept 30), who had abducted a mother of two after sexually harassing several other women in the Kurana area at Handapangoda under the pretext of blessing them, ‘Lankadeepa’ reported.

Police said the suspect, who was an ex-soldier, had come to a woman’s house to study her horoscope and sexually harassed her under the pretext of expelling her bad times.

In another incident, he had raped a young woman, who was about to marry, having told her that she has a lump in her womb.

This happened when she along with his groom-to-be approached him for his blessings.

Police said that the relatives have admitted the young woman to the hospital after lodging a complaint at the Ingiriya police.

On the same day, the police had received a complaint that a mother of two had disappeared from her home.

Upon inquiry, police found the man had abducted her saying that if she stayed at her home, her husband would die and she should stay away from home for seven days under the protection of God.

Acting upon a tip-off, the police had engaged the children to call their mother to her mobile and after getting her down to Homagama area, the police had arrested the man at Navagamuwa area through her.

According to the Ingiriya police, five women have, so far, lodged complaints against the suspect for sexual harassments and police believe that he had committed similar crime in several other areas as well by sending men out of their houses by giving limes and sexually harassing their wives under the pretext of blessing the women.

Ingiriya police are conducting further investigations.
