Man kills daughter's boyfriend with crowbar

After a heated quarrel, a man in Sri Lanka threw acid on his daughter’s boyfriend and then stabbed him to death with a crowbar, the ‘Lakbima’ newspaper has reported.

The incident took place at around 10pm on Saturday in Galketiyawatta area in Aranayake, police in Kegalle said.

The victim, a married man from Alapalawa, Kegalle, was having an extra-marital affair with the woman.

Officer who sought sex as bribe jailed for 20 years

A 63-year-old Sri Lankan management assistant attached to the MOH (Medical Officer of Health) Office in Wellawaya, was sentenced for 20 years in jail by a Colombo district on Friday for seeking sex as bribe from a female casual labourer in return for getting her a transfer to another office, ‘Lankadeepa’ reported.

The judge also ordered the suspect to pay a fine of Rs20,000, failing which the sentence would be extended by another four years.

On August 15, 2007, the Bribery Commission’s officers raided a guest house where the accused had taken the woman for sex.

Schoolboy sexually molested by middle-aged man

Police in Sri Lanka have arrested a 56-year-old married man for sexually molesting an underage schoolboy severely, the ‘Lankadeepa’ reported.

Police have also looking for an absconding 37-year-old bachelor, said to be employed as an adviser in a ministry and teaching in a religious school in Madampe area, who is accused of sexually molesting this 11-year-old boy.

The victim, said to have been molested several times at the arrested man’s house, has been sent for medical examination.

The boy’s parents lodged a police complaint after he told them of the incidents.

Harassed by parents, teenager tries to kill himself

A 14-year-old boy in Sri Lanka tried to commit suicide as he found it difficult to endure harassment by his parents, the ‘Mawbima’ has reported.

Police in Ambalantota said they rescued the boy who had jumped into the Walawe River.

The boy told police that his father often thrashed him for failing to answer mathematics questions correctly.

The boy’s father is an accountant in a Colombo firm and mother a teacher.

Police warned the boy’s parents after summoning them to the police station.
